When the touchscreen on my Garmin Zumo 550 went out a couple of weeks ago, I took the GPS unit off my bike and put it aside, saying I wasn’t going to replace it.
Then I got lost a few times on long rides.
One weekend, I traveled the back roads of West Virginia and thought i was still in that state when I stopped at a mom and pop general store and found out I was, in fact, in Kentucky and the road I was on wasn’t in either of the two travel atlases in my saddlebags.
So I checked the Garmin web site and found out they replace out-of-warranty units for a flat fee that is far less than the cost of a new one. So I shipped my Zumo off and had a refurbished unit back in less than a week.
Now, at least, when I’m lost I’ll know exactly where I’m lost.
