About Road Kill Diaries

This is a biker blog, the personal account of a 62-year-old semi-retired journalist and photographer who rediscovers the fun of motorcycling after too many years away from the saddle.

Doug Thompson lives in the mountains of Southwestern Virginia, just a "hop, skip and a jump" away from the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the best motorcycling riding venues in the country.

In 2008, he purchased a new Harley Sportster 1200 Low and put 6800 miles on it in seven months before trading the Sporty in on a '09 Super Glide, logging 17,000 plus miles in the first year.

Road Kill Diaries is his journal of riding and of rediscovering a place called America.  We invite you to come along for the ride.
